If we are in a position where one or two big movies dominate a month, then expect F9 and Black Widow to team-tag the competition next month, with presumably Jungle Cruise and/or The Suicide Squad running out the clock on this very strange summer before Candyman and Shang-Chi end the summer or kicks off the Fall. With a global total over $200 million, it may end up approximating the original film’s $188 million domestic and $341 million worldwide cume.
That it’s playing well to teens and young adults too, well, again, this is a perfect storm of right movie/right time.

If you’re someone who, in the before-times, saw a movie once a month, aside from the stuff to which you can bring all the kids, A Quiet Place part II is the go-to “babysitter pick” of the moment. That this one is also well-reviewed and well-liked certain helps. It has well-liked stars (Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy), a quasi-marquee director in John Krasinski (who does cameo in the aforementioned prologue) and every bit of buzz and goodwill from the first film. Yes, it’s a sequel, but A) lots of folks saw and liked the previous film either in theaters or in post-theatrical and B) you don’t really need to have seen the first film to keep up with this one (the dynamite prologue fills in the blanks).
